WorkSafe NZ's chief executive Nicole Rosie has suggested replanting radiata pines on recently harvested steep slopes might not be a good idea, given the risk of serious injuries or deaths when the slope comes to be felled again 20 or 30 years hence.

Radio NZ reports the Forest Owners Association takes a different view, as some forest schemes are legally required to re-plant in pine, while others would incur a significant financial penalty under climate change legislation.
