  When Contact Energy set out to build the Tauhara geothermal power station it decided to base its wellbeing strategy around whanaungatanga and creating a sense of belonging for the more than 4000 workers who passed through the huge project.   Putting research into practice: embracing new technology

  When Auckland Council proposed introducing new bins for household food waste it was aware of the significant potential downside for rubbish workers: musculoskeletal harm. Mark, a human factors researcher, outlines how the Council worked with AUT and rubbish workers to come up with a design to minimise risk. He will also share examples of where we are heading in terms of new technology in the workplace for assessing musculoskeletal disorders.

  Everyone knows genuine engagement with workers is essential to success, but few employers have a formal process to enable it. Rachel outlines the Safety Scrum process – which won the Engagement category – to successfully engage workers and others with risk and solutions.

  Are you OK? Really?

  Z Energy sought to enhance the way that it supports its people and people leaders to understand the impacts that psychosocial risks were having on their wellbeing by implementing practical tools designed to help them thrive. Andrew describes the successful “Are you ok?” framework – a finalist in the Wellbeing category –and the way the team used human centered design principles in the design of the framework.
